TRACK REVIEW
"House of Fun" kicks off with a sun-drenched riff that immediately sets the tone for a nostalgic yet fresh musical journey. The track effortlessly blends the timeless vibes of the Beatles with the gritty essence of classic Australian pub rock, creating a sound that’s both familiar and exhilarating. If you're a fan of bands like Twin Peaks and SPRINTER, this track is sure to resonate with you.
The lyrics in "House of Fun" are deeply introspective, delivered with a smooth vocal style that grounds the track, making it both relatable and compelling. The band’s use of stops and fills throughout the song adds dynamic shifts that keep the listener engaged from start to finish.
Special mention goes to the guitar solo—it's nothing short of brilliant. The tone is rich and tasteful, elevating the track to another level and leaving a lasting impression. Fur Blossom has truly crafted a track that captures the spirit of a bygone era while injecting it with modern energy and flair.
Your new single "House of Fun" just dropped on August 13th. What inspired this track, and how does it fit into the psychedelic journey that Fur Blossom is known for?
House of Fun essentially started the band! It was the first demo sent to each other & the first song we jammed on at our first rehearsal. It was inspired by a song called ‘Icarus’ by The Big Push band, the whole song was written within 5 minutes of hearing the lyrics.
With the single launch for "House of Fun" coming up at Bar Open on August 16th, what can fans expect from this live performance? How do you plan to bring the energy of the song to the stage?
A slew of new singles showcasing our best work yet. Being the song that started this journey, it’s a culmination of all the hard work we’ve put in to make this band a reality.
Fur Blossom is often described as a psychedelic trip back in time to the 60s and 70s. What draws you to this era, and how do you infuse those influences into your music while keeping it fresh and relevant?
The 1960’s/70’s was a time when music unified the masses, whilst we can’t go back to that era we’d like to bring with us the energy & ideals of that time period. Hoping to invoke that energy & unification within our listeners.
Your music strikes a balance between cosmic grooves and sonic fervor. How do you achieve this harmony in your songwriting and performances?
We approach Songwriting and performances the same way. What we’re feeling at the moment and how we express ourselves is total in what we’re trying to achieve for the fans and for ourselves.
Each member of Fur Blossom brings unique talents to the band. How do your individual musical influences and styles come together to create the band's signature sound?
We all come from a very diverse musical background, Joél (drummer) didn’t listen to psychedelic rock before starting the band & played in a wide variety of different genre based bands, Cal (lead guitar) came from a 70’s rock stage, Craig (lead vocals) was very much steeped in the 60’s “summer of love” & Mat (bass) was heavy into post punk. All these elements combined gives us a lot of places to pull ideas from, to create our own little personal blend of psychedelia.
The lyrics and vibes of your songs seem to invite listeners on a journey. What do you hope people experience when they listen to Fur Blossom’s music?
We like the idea of when someone listens to a song & it resonates with a very particular moment or experience in their life. They want to listen to it again & again & that’s why we write songs, to inspire, reflect & for people to join us on our journey & help them through there’s.
The psychedelic genre has a rich history and a dedicated fanbase. How do you see Fur Blossom contributing to the modern psychedelic scene?
We want to steer psychedelic rock into a new uncharted direction, through our well varied influences from different musical backgrounds, we want to bring just enough dance, just enough rock, a hint of jingle and a bit more jangle.
What has been the most memorable or transformative moment for the band so far, whether in the studio or on stage?
We decided to change our name for some, let’s say, unforeseen circumstances. With our first songs freshly recorded and us looking to the future, and six months of back-and-forth name ideas, we had to get it sorted or we were never going to get any songs out there. We stood in the empty carpark of a recording studio where we decided we couldn’t leave until we found one. Finally we did, in a celebratory moment where we realised, we’re in this and we want this.
With "House of Fun" as your latest release, what other new music or projects are you currently working on? Can fans look forward to more releases soon?
Not to give everything away, but our roadmap is looking pretty exciting. We’ve got a couple singles in the pipeline to pre-empt an upcoming debut EP. We’re writing more songs than we can record and always trying to keep up with ourselves so tune in because there’s a lot of good stuff coming.
As a band that’s deeply rooted in the psychedelic sounds of the 60s and 70s, where do you see Fur Blossom heading in the future? What are your aspirations for the band moving forward?
Every song is a new opportunity for us to refine the Fur Blossom sound, where we started is so different to where we are right now and we’re keen to see where the journey takes us. We want our music to become our everything & we want to allow as many people to experience this crazy ride with us! We want to keep loving what we do and were having the best time so far.
