MIRA SMRITI | INTERVIEW + TRACK REVIEW

Sep 23
5 min read

For Mira Smrita, being an artist doesn’t begin and end with the music. It exists in the way she presents herself, the way she steps onto a stage and the confidence with which she wants to be remembered.

A singer, songwriter and fashion model, Smrita approaches creativity as something larger than any one medium. Fashion feeds into her sense of identity, live performance gives her an opportunity to connect directly with an audience, and songwriting becomes a place to put her thoughts into words without hiding behind abstraction. It’s an approach built heavily around individuality, presentation and the belief that an artist should have something recognisably their own.

Her track Velvet Red fits naturally into that world. For Smrita, the title represents ideas of prestige, status and standing apart from the ordinary. Yet underneath those images is something more personal: a determination to prove yourself, recognise your own value and become the person you believe you can be.

That confidence has been developed across five albums and a journey that has stretched beyond music into modelling, beauty pageants, fashion shows and live performance. Interestingly, it’s the stage that Smrita continues to gravitate toward most. She describes finding power and energy in the silence before she sings, that brief moment when an audience is waiting and everything rests on what happens next.

We spoke with Mira Smrita about Velvet Red, the relationship between fashion and music, why performing remains such an important part of her identity, and the ambition driving whatever comes next.

TRACK REVIEW - Velvet Red

Velvet Red opens in an interesting emotional space, sombre enough to carry a little weight, yet optimistic enough to suggest something brighter is waiting just around the corner. The instrumental hangs there for a moment, almost yearning for a voice to arrive and give it direction.

Then the drums enter, and suddenly the whole track wakes up.

They’re joined by chopped vocal samples dancing through the background, immediately bringing a different energy to the song. What initially felt reflective begins to bounce, while the lead vocal floats above it all with an ethereal quality that contrasts beautifully against the consistency of the beat underneath.

What really caught my ear, though, is the sitar weaving through the background. It comes and goes rather than demanding attention, adding this unexpected texture that gives Velvet Red a slightly dreamlike, almost otherworldly character. There are moments where the rhythm pulls you forward, only for that sitar and the surrounding vocal textures to soften the edges again.

That push and pull is where the track works best. There’s a steady heartbeat underneath Velvet Red, but plenty happening around it, from the chopped voices to the shifting instrumentation and airy vocal delivery. It gives the song movement without sacrificing its atmosphere.

Velvet Red feels confident in its contrasts: sombre but hopeful, rhythmic but ethereal, constant yet always introducing another little detail to follow. A beautifully textured track that isn't afraid to bring some unexpected sounds into the room.

Would you rather sing on stage as a Singer or write music as a Songwriter, and why?

I would rather prefer say, singing on stage as a Singer. Because I have more experience and expertise at singing on stage. I am emotionally connected with all of my audiences as like fans and followers. I get big applaud and standing ovation on my each and every performance. I get huge appraisal from the people.

What does the title Velvet Red mean to you emotionally, and what do you hope listeners take from the song?

Velvet Red, emotionally means that you belong to Royal Bloodline, and it tells that you have your own status and prestige and that you are an remarkable and outstanding personality rather than, a commoner. The song represents how and the way you can prove yourself great.

You bring a strong sense of style and image into your artistry. How does the world of fashion feed into your songwriting?

Actually, I am a Fashion Model as well. Hence, Fashion comes in every sense like your talk, quality, manner, outlook in everything. I am a song writer. I write, totally in a realistic way rather than imagination, whichever thought, idea comes to my mind, I write it openly and clearly, to be meaningful, sensible and convey the true message in the song.

What does a live performance give you that a studio session cannot?

Actually I have done Beauty Pageant and Fashion Shows. I attract people as audiences to look over me in either way. Because first impression is the best impression. I feel more powerful and energetic by the silence when I sing on the stage.

Pop and R&B are worlds people sometimes underestimate as songwriting genres. What do you love most about writing inside them?

Pop music is a big music industry. It needs great courage, energy and positive vibes to make a song. Songwriting is a great skill. If people underestimate about writing, then they are wrong as lapse and misunderstood. Because every song has its own lyrics as like own music.

Tell us about a live show that changed the way you saw yourself as a performer.

For me each and every show performance is an golden opportunity and golden moment to shine on stage. It improves your confidence and your stage presentation. According to your performance level, you are connected with your audiences through good quality of songs, presentation and vibes, you rock the stage, to be enthralled by the audiences.

What do you think makes an artist's identity feel truly their own in an era where everyone is being told what to be?

As an artist, my popular identity comes from my image first along with the quality of my voice and the title and topic I choose to convey to the people. I have my own and unique style of personality and it makes my songs as hit music all over.

What have you learned about becoming a stronger artist since you started making music?

I have made so far five music albums. And my songs are hit in Spotify and YouTube. To become a Stronger artist is being successful in what you do and be as a Singer. It needs more expertise and hard work in make of new music albums.

Where are you headed next, and what would you like to build toward as an artist?

I am still a Singer and Model. I am still in progress of making hit music albums. I have a great future in my singing career. Apparently I make my own music shows as like live performances and cultural events. I hope I would establish myself at a larger scale with more successive albums and make interviews, articles for magazines and invite more audiences as Fans and Followers.

If a new listener finds Velvet Red for the first time, what do you hope they walk away with?

I hope the quality of my song with good presentation makes people worth listening and following and make me a Popular artist in the music industry. I am thankful for more likes and support.
