SPLENDID FIASCO | INTERVIEW

SPLENDID FIASCO JUST RELEASED NEW TRACKS AND WE'RE PRETTY NOSEY OVER HERE AT WIZARD WATER, WE THOUGHT WE'D DIVE RIGHT IN.

SINGLE NAME IS - SWEATY KID MAVIS LISTEN HERE

Ferny Fairway band from. the Gold Coast

Your latest track is intriguingly titled "Sweaty Kid Mavis." Can you tell us the story behind the name and what inspired this song?

This song was one of the first songs Victor (vocalist) ever wrote. Sweaty kid mavis is about teenage/pre-teen life and and finding yourself amongst the crowd and popularities in life.. within saying that this is kind of a play on that it’s a very unserious tune.

Splendid Fiasco was born out of jam sessions with friends. How did those early sessions shape the sound and chemistry of the band today?

From those sessions splendid just evolved into the beast that it is today, everyone has a very different influence from each other. It was born from mates having a jam/pissing up. Everyone was always very serious about how much we loved making music together, we all came to the decision to give it a proper go.

You’ve mentioned influences like Mako Road, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. How do these legendary acts influence your music, and how do you blend these diverse sounds into something uniquely Splendid Fiasco

Just like any other musician/band, everyone has there own flavours in their individual styles of playing and for most of us its the music we grew up on, the music that our parents loved. We manage to blend everyone’s individualistic styles by just having a ‘let’s try it’ attitude. It doesn’t always work and sometimes there are songs better than others but we will never say no to what each other has been writing

Your music has been described as a fusion of styles that tugs at heartstrings and makes people dance. How do you achieve this balance between emotional depth and high-energy grooves in your songs?

We love to bring high energy to our music and that is always in the way we write out stuff. We take the feel good vibe from the music but pour our hearts out lyrically. Sometimes it just comes from what any one of the boys might be experiencing at that time in life.

What was the creative process like for "Sweaty Kid Mavis"? How did the song come together, and what were some of the challenges or surprises along the way?

It was all initially from victors guitar riff that starts the song off victor had also had the line “act fast catch the cash all my friends are gone and I came last” too of which is pretty sick with victors ability to seamlessly intergrate references to our other songs/lyrics. Biggest challenge was finding where to take the song after the first verse. After countless jams it all fell into place.

As a band that formed from "drink up jams," how important is spontaneity in your music-making process? Do you find that your best ideas come from these loose, improvisational sessions?

It’s a vital part of our band, of our music and entire engine that makes us work. Always the best comes out of our spontaneity. We recently played a gig in Brisbane a week out from having the offer to play. It then turned into a headline and everyone came out to see us, was just so surprising. Rode that buzz after we played that last song and went back to the hotel and wrote a new tune. That gig was played from no rehearsal and a short time limit but all the boys turned up and played their asses off.

Your music aims to make people move and dance. How do you approach live performances to ensure that your audience feels that energy and connection?

The first thing we do at any live setting is invite people in. After the first tune is played we ask everyone to come closer to the stage and vibe out with us. We find this is our best way to really connect to the people we are playing for. Inevitably giving us the most energy to it on a great show with being front row of.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable moment for the band, whether it was during recording, performing, or even in those early jam sessions?

Every minute we spend together is memorable. We some how manage to bring the best out of each other when we are in the same room, not just musically but as mates. Probably most recently our tour we carried out for ‘Sweaty Kid Mavis’ travelling to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Every moment on tour just felt so rewarding for the energy we all put into splendid. Oh and some of the on tour antics that came along with it were indeed very memorable

What are some of the key messages or themes you hope listeners take away from your music, especially with a track like "Sweaty Kid Mavis"

All in all skm is just a feel good tune, we took a bit of the seriousness out of this and managed to write a feel good tune. just something you could be sitting in a car on a big drive and jam out to. Something you could put on at a party and all your mates could belt together. So all in all just a feeling of overall positivity

Looking ahead, what’s next for Splendid Fiasco? Are there any upcoming projects, tours, or collaborations that fans should be excited about?

At the moment we just got off of our first tour promoting skm. We are gonna have a little bit of down time, do a little bit of writing in that process and see what gigs we can get going. Hopefully going to be a busy end to this year and a busy next one! Definitely more music to come so keep your eyes and ears out
