THE MUDFLOWERS | INTERVIEW + TRACK REVIEW

Emerging from the local music scene in late 2023, The Mudflowers are already making waves with their rich fusion of indie, rock, and alternative influences. Though the band members may live hours apart, their chemistry was undeniable from the first jam session, setting the stage for a unique and immersive musical experience.

With a three-single EP tour on the horizon, The Mudflowers are bringing their chilled yet deeply resonant sound to audiences, aiming to create an atmosphere that connects on a personal level. Their music—earthy, textured, and sprinkled with just the right amount of glitter—blends introspection with a striking visual element, highlighted by Hayley’s silk fan artistry.

As they continue to grow, The Mudflowers have already found defining moments—from locking in their sound in the studio to sharing the stage with incredible artists. We caught up with the band to talk about their inspirations, creative process, and what’s next as they continue carving out their place in the scene. This is a paid partnership with "The Mudflowers"

TRACK REVIEW

From the moment “Timekeeper” begins, there’s an earthy, hypnotic pulse that immediately draws you in. The folk-inspired drum tones set a deep, resonant foundation, while jazzy chord voicings steer the melody into unexpected and intriguing territory. It feels like being pulled into a restless journey—rushing through an underground tunnel in search of something just out of reach.

Lyrically and musically, this track tells a story in a way that feels almost cinematic. There’s a sense of urgency and mystery, unfolding through shifting dynamics and immersive instrumentation. Just when you think you’ve settled into its groove, the guitar solo kicks in—and it absolutely tears through the mix. The tone is unreal, cutting through with raw emotion and power, making for a jaw-dropping moment that elevates the entire track.

With “Timekeeper,” The Mudflowers have created something both immersive and exhilarating—a song that not only tells a story but makes you feel like you’re part of it.

The Mudflowers came together in late 2023, what was the spark that bought you all into the same room, and how did you know this was the right lineup?

We knew of each other through the local scene even though we live 2 hrs apart we lined up a jam with a couple of song ideas and gelled well together musically and individually.

Your sound blends indie, rock and alternative influences. If each band member had to name one artist that shaped their approach to music, who would they pick?

Hayley – Katatonia, Jed – Opeth, Kirsten – Concrete Blonde, Sam – Cosmic Psychos

Hayley’s silk fan artistry is a striking element of your live show, where did that idea come from, and how does it enhance the experience for the audience?

Hayley enjoys belly dancing, particularly the props. We love the way silk fans move to our music.

How do The Mudflowers come together in the songwriting process?

Kirsten and Jed bounce musical ideas together, Sam works on the drums and foundation of the song, Hayley weaves the melody then we practice, tweaking it until we’re all happy.

When you're writing, do you aim to tell personal stories, or do you leave things open for interpretation?

Our songs are open for interpretation; it allows everyone to connect with our music on a personal level.

Your first tour is coming up for your 3 single EP, what’s the vibe you want to create at these shows, and how do you hope people feel when they walk away?

We have a chilled out vibe, we hope our songs connect with people and enjoy our music.

If The Mudflowers’ sound had to be described in colours, textures, or visuals, what would they be?

Earth based, swampy blue, purple and green with a dash of orange and a sprinkle of glitter!

Since forming in November 2023, what’s the biggest moment so far that’s made you feel you’re on the right path?

Having the opportunities to play some great gigs with some awesome bands over the past 6 months.

Every band has a moment in rehearsal or recording when something clicks and feels magic, what’s been one of those defining moments for The Mudflowers?

When we finally heard the mix of our EP our friend Dennis did an awesome job capturing our sound.

If we check in with the Mudflowers a year from now, what do you hope has changed or evolved?

We’d love to have a full album recorded and more live gigs.
